Dear Yvette,
You said it. You meant it. You will not change your mind. That person hurt you, and you refuse to forgive. But what if your stubbornness is the only thing keeping you imprisoned?
We see this in children. They do not want to give in. We call them stubborn. This trait carries into adulthood.
As adults, we declare: "I am not going to do this. I will not change my mind. That person wronged me. I refuse to forgive."
As we move through life, much comes against us. We become stubborn and refuse to forgive. We think our refusal protects us. It does not.
There are things beyond our control. But can we learn from what occurs? Can we move away from stubbornness when we recognize it?
Here is the truth: God is faithful. We do not have to do this alone.
Our stubbornness often comes from fear or pride. Yet God offers a different way. He calls us to release our grip, soften our hearts, and choose forgiveness over control.
When you recognize your stubbornness, pause. Pray. Ask God to help you release what you cannot carry.
Stubbornness feels like strength. Forgiveness is real strength.
What stubbornness could you release today?
